Paragliding Cape Town Signal Hill
Signal Hill sits at 350 metres above sea level between Table Mountain and Lion’s Head. This iconic peak offers consistent wind conditions and panoramic views.
We operate tandem paragliding flights from Signal Hill year-round (weather permitting). Your SAHPA-certified instructor will brief you on safety procedures and explain how the paraglide is controlled before take-off.
Each flight is more than a ride. It’s an introductory training experience where you’ll learn free flight fundamentals while soaring above the Atlantic.
What to Expect During Your Tandem Paragliding Flight
Your tandem flight begins at the Signal Hill launch site where you’ll meet your certified instructor. They’ll walk you through a safety briefing and explain paragliding basics. You’ll learn how the wing responds to controls and what to do during take-off and landing.
Then, your instructor will strap you into the harness. You’ll take five to ten running steps down the slope as the wing inflates behind you. The transition is smooth and gentle. Most people describe it as surprisingly gentle, like sitting into a chair mid-air.
Within moments you’ll glide silently above Cape Town with unobstructed views of Camps Bay, the Twelve Apostles and the Atlantic ocean. Flights are usually around from 10 to 20 minutes long, depending on wind conditions.
Your instructor may demonstrate basic manoeuvres and explain how thermals work. You’ll land on the grass at Sea Point Promenade, roughly 2 km from the launch site. We provide transport back to Signal Hill where your vehicle is parked.

Safety Requirements
Safety is paramount in tandem paragliding flights. We enforce a 110-kilogram weight limit to ensure safe equipment operation and optimal flight performance.
Participants must be at least 14 years old and in reasonable physical health. You don’t need prior experience– your SAHPA-certified instructor handles all technical aspects of the flight.
Licensing and Certification
We’re registered with SACAA/0041/DTO, adhering to South African Civil Aviation Authority standards. We use regularly inspected equipment and follow strict safety protocols. Instructors conduct thorough pre-flight checks and monitor weather conditions closely.
Weather Conditions
Flights typically run from 10am to 5pm when thermals are active. Wind speeds between 15-25 km/h create ideal conditions. Rain, wind above 30 km/h or poor visibility will ground flights. If conditions aren’t suitable for flying, we reschedule flights at no extra charge.
What to Wear and Bring
Wear closed-toe shoes with good grip and dress in layers, since temperatures drop as you gain altitude. Bring sunglasses and sunscreen. Leave loose items like hats and phones in the car or with ground crew.
Pricing
We offer transparent seasonal prices for paragliding in Cape Town. Winter rates (May to September) are R1,700 per person.
Summer rates (October to April) are R1,800. This includes your flight, safety equipment and pre-flight briefing.
In-flight photo and video packages cost R350 in winter or R400 in summer. You can relive your flight and share professional footage with family and friends.
